The Unique Identification Authority of India or UIDAI, which issues the 12-digit unique identification number or Aadhaar number to individuals, offers a wide range of online services through its 'self-service' portal: ssup.uidai. gov.in. One of these online facilities allows users to make changes to their address details fed into the Aadhaar database.

Here are the steps to update the online address in Aadhaar:

Step 1: Go to the Aadhaar Self-Service Update Portal and click on the option "continue with address update".

Step 2: Login with Aadhaar number, registered mobile phone number and OTP.

Step 3: In case of a valid address test, click "Continue to update address".

Step 4: Enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number and click 'Send OTP'.

Step 5: Enter the OTP and log in to the Aadhaar account.

Step 6: Enter the new address after checking the 'update address using address test' option. You can also use the option 'Update address with secret code'.

Step 7: Enter the residential address mentioned in the 'Proof of Address'.

Step 8: Now select the type of document to be sent as proof of address.

Step 9: Upload the scanned copy of the proof of address and click the 'Submit' button.

Step 10: Aadhaar update request will be accepted and a 14 digit update request number (URN) will be generated.

You can check the status of the Aadhaar address update through URN. Once updated, users can download the updated version and get the Aadhar card print.

"In case of unavailability of documents, an address validation letter request can be sent. This letter contains a secret code sent for validation after the address verifier consents to the use of the address given by the requesting resident. After successfully submitting the application, the resident receives the validation letter from Aadhaar within 30 days from the application filing date, "according to UIDAI.
